Kevin Kyaw, Director of Media

Originally from Myanmar (Burma), Kevin Kyaw is an accomplished pianist, dedicated educator, and passionate advocate for social change through music and art. As Director of Media of MuseConnect, he leverages his professional music and photography experience to lead the organization's visual communications. With a portfolio spanning major music events and international festivals, his recent media experience includes photography and videography coverage for the soundSCAPE Festival and 88 International's Tunisia88 USA Tour, alongside his engagement as a photographer for the Stony Brook University Music Department.

Kevin’s musical journey began at the age of 12 in his home country of Myanmar, where he was inspired by concert pianists Kimball Gallagher and Kai-Yin Huang and taught himself the piano throughout high school. Recognizing music as his true calling, he made the decision to switch from mechatronic engineering to music full-time. With the guidance of his mentors, Kevin moved to the United States, earning a full scholarship to study at Missouri Western State University, where he completed his B.A. in Music under Dr. Nathanael May, graduating summa cum laude. He then continued his Master’s studies at the University of Kansas, receiving both a full scholarship and a teaching assistantship to study under Dr. Jack Winerock. Kevin is currently a doctoral candidate at SUNY Stony Brook, supported by a full scholarship and teaching assistantship, where he studies with Christina Dahl.

As a soloist, Kevin has performed with the MWSU Symphony Orchestra and the Virtuosi Brunenses Orchestra, and he has appeared in four continents at venues such as Yangon’s City Hall, Italy’s Sala dei Notari, Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, and Tunisia’s L’acropolium de Carthage. His commitment to musical excellence is reflected in several first prizes, including the Kansas MTNA-Steinway Young Artist Competition, MWSU Concerto/Aria Competition, ATLAS Music Academy Competition, and Philharmonic Society of Myanmar Competition. A strong believer in the power of music and art education to drive meaningful social change, Kevin also serves as Co-Artistic Director of the Myanmar Music Festival. Through this vital role, he leads youth empowerment initiatives, offering choir training, songwriting workshops, and creativity sessions to inspire and uplift young people in Myanmar, providing them with hope during the country’s ongoing civil unrest.
